CCLA Electronic Resources Defined
The Consortium of Church Libraries and Archives is composed of the libraries
at BYU, the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU, BYU-Hawaii, BYU-Idaho, LDS Business College,
Church History Library, Church Archives, Family History and the seminaries, institutes and
Church schools of the Church Education System. The electronic resources offered by the
consortium are comprised of three parts:
1. Electronic databases that are licensed and hosted through a
vendor.
These databases are created and maintained by a vendor and do not
reside on any of our campuses. CES pays a licensing fee to the vendor
for access to these materials that are delivered via the web. Access
to these materials can be delivered from both on and off campus.
2. Premium level Internet service.
Consortium libraries provide filtered and virus protected access
to the Internet as well as email accounts for students, and employees.
Within the physical structure of each library, computers and printers
are provided as well as technical assistance and training in the
use of electronic resources. Access to this service is on campus
only.
3. Locally created electronic content and web sites.
The value of selected locally held papers, photos, audio and video
may be enhanced significantly by reformatting into digital objects
which can then be delivered via the web. Locally created e-content
including instructional documents and websites support the curriculum,
instruction and other learning resources offered by each CCLA
institution. Access to content created locally is delivered both on
and off campus. Locally created content can most easily be extended to the
entire church population without additional cost or licensing issues.
Mission Statement
Aggregate and coordinate CES electronic resources to support teaching
and learning across all CES institutions in an efficient, measurable
and cost effective way. Consideration for the purchase of licensed
e-content or commitment of personnel and equipment to create local
e-content will be based on two criteria; the value of said e-content
to the consortium as a whole and it’s extensibility to
the entire church population.
